Thank you for everyone that has joined the Tackling Tinnitus study, which is currently underway.
Experiencing tinnitus can be very bothersome and interfere with many aspects of daily life. Although there is no cure for tinnitus, research has identified strategies that can help people better manage their tinnitus.
To provide additional support to individuals with tinnitus, the Tackling Tinnitus program was developed. This is an Internet-based intervention for tinnitus, which can be compared to an e-learning program. The information provided is similar to that received at a tinnitus clinic, but the delivery of the information is in the comfort of your own home. What makes this program unique is that you have a clinician supporting you online while you do the program. Previous research on Tackling Tinnitus in Europe and the United Kingdom has shown that this is an effective way of helping people manage and reduce the impact tinnitus has.
We are presently evaluating the effects of this Internet-based program in the USA. This is an important study and has the potential to provide additional treatment routes to those with tinnitus.
This work is funded by the National Institute on Deafness and Communication Disorders (NIDCD) of the National Institute of Health (NIH) under the award number R21 DC017214.
